Lada 2050: A Future Vision of Mobility

An ArtBook Showcasing the Lada 2050 Design Competition

For the First Moscow Design Biennale, the results of the international competition Lada 2050 were compiled into an ArtBook. The competition, organized as a team effort, required the ArtBook to document all stages of the competition. This led to the creation of a comprehensive visual identity system that reflects the objectives and design decisions of the Lada 2050 contest.

The navigation system within the ArtBook is based on a cube projection, with each side representing one of the three design schools involved. These elements serve as the foundation for the navigation system's signs. The primary color used is the color of the finalist's vehicle model, distinguishing the participants from the six teams. Mini content valves are included, featuring participants, mini-models, team curators, and the universities involved. Additionally, the ArtBook contains 20 internal titles that illustrate the step-by-step process of creating and painting the final vehicle model.

The ArtBook itself measures 265x235 mm, with inside flaps measuring 235x80 mm. The cover features matte lamination, and the ArtBook consists of 264 pages. The entire production process took two weeks to complete.

The Lada 2050 ArtBook provides a comprehensive overview of the competition, including project descriptions, a multitude of sketches, and the various stages of modeling the conceptual mode of transport. The navigation system, with its infographic signs, ensures easy orientation within the ArtBook. Internal bookmark half-titles are included for the six teams, further aiding navigation. The final section is dedicated to the finalist model, with the color scheme based on the model's main color.

The Lada 2050 project commenced in March 2017 and concluded in April 2017, with the ArtBook being exhibited at the First Moscow Design Biennale. The machines used in the ArtBook were prepared by students from MAMI, the Academy named after Stieglitz, and the Finnish University of Design in Lahti. Lada brand served as the sponsor and ideological inspirer of the project.

The design of the ArtBook was influenced by the final model of the vehicle, incorporating navigation signs and a color scheme that aligns with the model. The ArtBook aims to preserve and present a new vision of how future vehicles could look like. It addresses questions that millions of people contemplate: How will the world change around us? What future technologies and materials will impact car design and usage?

The creation of the Lada 2050 ArtBook posed several challenges. Selecting and organizing illustrations and sketches from 35 students required meticulous attention to detail. The goal was to create a publication that effectively communicates and preserves the new vision of future mobility. The complex navigation system ensures easy access to the diverse content within the ArtBook, while the clear heading system facilitates seamless navigation. The ArtBook is a testament to the creative and technical skills of the participants and their dedication to exploring the future of mobility.

The Lada 2050 ArtBook received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Print and Published Media Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate exceptional creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The ArtBook contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
